The Norwich Public Schools Education Foundation is pleased to announce it is awarding $5,250 to Norwich Public School teachers as part of the Foundation’s Fall 2014 Grant Program.
A ‘School Community Grant’, generously funded by an anonymous donor who cares deeply about the Norwich community and Norwich Public Schools will fund a Reading & Writing Workshop Approach to Literacy Instruction to a 6th grade team of teachers at Teachers’ Memorial Middle School. The Foundation is matching this generous grant with one of equal value and will fund a Picture Exchange Communication System for non-verbal students, also at Teachers’ Memorial Middle School.
The Joseph S. Catania Science Grant will fund ‘The Life & Times of the Crayfish’ teaching students at Moriarty Magnet School for Environmental Science about the biology and habitat of the crayfish. The Eileen Catania Literacy Grant will fund a ‘Leveled Library’, which encourages student independence in reader workshops. Mr. Catania was a leading scientist at Pfizer. Mr. Catania and his wife Eileen valued the importance of education and their family’s contributions continue to support educational achievement within Norwich Public Schools.
The Foundation is also awarding five (5) $250 Mini-Grants for a Mystic Aquarium Traveling Teacher Program at Mahan School; a Special Education Library at Huntington School; a Literacy Workshop at Teachers’ Memorial Middle School; E-books at Stanton School; and Speech and Language Resources at Bishop Early Learning Center.
Since its founding in 2011, the Norwich Public Schools Education Foundation has awarded nearly $15,000 in grants to Norwich Public School teachers.
